Choosing a filing cabinet

Think about weight and safety too. A loaded cabinet is seriously heavy, so it wants a solid floor and a spot where an open drawer will not block a walkway. Modern cabinets have drawer interlocks so only one drawer opens at a time, a real difference from the twenty year old cabinets they usually replace. Locking is standard, useful for anything sensitive, just keep the spare keys somewhere that is not the top drawer.
